We weren't supposed to pick up the stones that lined the path, but the popular kids did, made us carry their favorites. Little did they know we would throw them onto the trains and hoods of their fancy coats when they weren't looking. They carried the weight then.

Tell me about the Conference of the Pines

Lana remembered the needles, the amber, the sap collected from last year's trees. She remembered to stir it just once and pour it in the snow. She grabbed a fallen branch and wrote her question with its end. "Oh please," Lana thought to herself, please answer." She feared she was the only one who remembered the method of asking, that the pines could no longer listen.

You wrote a story in the future, but I can't remember the title of it. It's about the woman who realizes that she's just a recurring dream, and who tries to figure out whose dream she's in so she can talk the dreamer (who is obviously severely depressed) out of committing suicide.

This hall was impossible. She had walked for days, and yet still was facing north, still surrounded by lockers, posters tacked on locked classroom doors. (She knew they were locked; she'd tried each one.)
