Sep. 25th, 2012 11:31 pmMy poem, "Harvest", which appeared in the Autumn 2011 Goblin Fruit, has been nominated for a Dwarf Stars Award!
Yesterday I went to go see Beasts of the Southern Wild with a friend. I liked the movie, especially the bits about the Aurochs. After it finished, we decided to get tea at her house and then go for a walk. The first few blocks after her house seemed fairly normal for the neighborhood (really pretty old houses), but after we crossed one street, there was no street on the other side, but some brick lined alleyway. It seemed very old, and crossed diagonally. It had its own name too, it was a lane, and I felt I was suddenly transported into a much older city. The buildings along it were all brick and some of them faced up onto it. It led us straight to the cathedral, and the steps showed a good view of the city.
My favorite parts of the alleyway were probably one castle like house which was built of stone, and another building which had the best widest entrances. One had windows in it and all we could see inside was scaffolding reaching up to what appeared to be glass. It seemed like some kind of strange factory, but upon asking some people nearby we were told that it was a house and that they were putting in a skylight. I still like thinking that it is some kind of factory but a house (or rather, a house complex -- there were multiple addresses) with a courtyard is neat too.
