I went to Madison to protest today. We went to the capitol and marched around it. There were many, many people there and many, many signs. Some of my favorites referenced Imperial Walkers from Star Wars and someone had even made a giant model of the Imperial Walker.

I've never been to any sort of protest before. It felt good to be walking, to be moving, to be shouting with so many people.

I really appreciated all of the signs that said "Remember, this is a peaceful protest." There were Tea Partiers there, apparently, but I only saw a few pro-Walker signs. I was not in every area of the protest, and there may have been more elsewhere.

I saw people from Minnesota, I saw people from many other states. There was a puppet, there was a man on stilts. There were policemen and firemen protesting too. There were people with all manners of signs, some tasteful, some less so. The capitol was packed, the streets directly around the capitol were packed, State Street was packed.

If you can make it up there, do join in.

So glad you were able to go!

Good for you. I'd be there if I could.

And not just because I've got UW-Mad in mind for my second Master's. :S Seriously, though, the union movement's been pushed back far enough, and quoth Picard, "the line must be drawn here!"

WE NEED PEOPLE FOR OVERNIGHT SUNDAY. DRIVE UP, SLEEP HERE, DRIVE BACK FOR CLASS. Seriously, they just tried to tear down and throw out all our posters while there are so few of us here.

Glad you were there, and I wish I could have been there on Saturday -- I had my grandma's birthday party, so obviously that had been planned a lot earlier and you only turn 91 once anyway, but I did wish I could have been there! But I guess it sounds like there will still be plenty to do in the near future. Maybe even staying overnight, though I admit this business of not failing classes / not neglecting my students / not annoying the professor I TA for and still finding time to protest is taking me some time to perfect.
