Feb. 25th, 2010 08:04 pmI was talking to
aamcnamara on IM when I mentioned that I'd been creating a small city in my head.
"It is somewhere between 80k and 100k," I said, meaning the city's population.
"Oh,"
aamcnamara said, "my brain assumes numbers formatted like that are word counts."
I think this is a valid new way to categorize cities. Small towns of around 2k to 10k or so are short stories, communities of 20k or 30k are novellas. Those of around 80k are modest sized novel cites. Rather long novels are 200k and cities over that are a series of books.
-------------
Would anyone like to comment on my poems? I have a group of people to whom I send emails containing poems. If you desire to be added to this list, tell me your email address.
-------------
And now, back to homework! (Or re-reading Freedom and Necessity.)

Date: 2010-02-26 02:33 am (UTC)Nah, I still blame NaNoWriMo. Which means, by extension, I can blame my friend who got me into NaNo in the first place! Having a scapegoat is so handy.

Date: 2010-02-26 02:30 am (UTC)If your poems aren't too long, I'd enjoy reading them. I have a hard time making myself read very long poems, though I often enjoy them if I do make myself. But I like shorter poems (under 50 lines or so) very much. But since we're only just getting to know each other, if you wouldn't feel comfortable, I'd quite understand.

Date: 2010-02-26 02:41 am (UTC)They are not over 50 lines (I believe. I haven't exactly counted but my poems tend towards the shorter side.) Well, I can't send them if I don't have your email address. What is it? If you'd like to see some of my very short poems, I believe you're a part of my poetry filter. They should be found here: http://aliseadae.livejournal.com/tag/poetry

Date: 2010-02-26 03:38 pm (UTC)I grew up in a short story, and now am living in a novella. I'm currently applying my mental superpowers towards living in a particular long novel, though I may end up living nearby in another novella and simply visit the novel from time to time. (Much as I do now. Different novel, though.) Wish me luck!
