In the past few weeks since my last post, I've:

- played Quelf, a bizzare but fun game.
- watched my first Miyazaki movie, Castle in the Sky. I liked it. I'm not entirely sure why I haven't seen any other Miyazaki movies. People should fix this.
- wrote various things. [livejournal.com profile] aamcnamara's posts about writing have sparked thoughts of how I am in the middle of the infinite bog/wood/field that is learning to write. I am not on the edge looking in anymore, but I am very much still learning. Not that I won't always be learning in some regard.
- classes are good. I seem to prefer discussion classes to lecture classes.
- Played in a 7th Sea pick up! It was awesome. There should be more 7th Sea games around here.
- I've been enjoying Carly's Adventure game as well
- Went to the library and checked out: The City and the City, a Sonya Taafe collection, a Peter S. Beagle Collection, the first Clockwork Phoenix, King of Elfland's Daughter, Hornblower and the Hotspur, The Diamond Age (we read a bit of it for AI class and it seemed intriguing. I'm supposed to read a book and write a book review on it for that class. Any ideas?). Have I mentioned how much I love the local library's collection? That, and it is quite fun to sing Sea Shanties on the way there. Especially when you're in a group.
- Watched Life on Mars. Still not done, no spoilers please!

Where is a good place to buy d10s on the internet? Or, for that matter, in RL? Mostly, I said internet as I'd like them ASAP but I do like buying things from local businesses. I'm afraid there are less of those around here.

I've asked something else like this before but I want to hear about your moments when you were incredibly geeky in an awesome way. Like the time that it was western day for homecoming week at my high school and I came to school in my White Tree of Gondor shirt. That sort of thing.

The King of Elfland's Daughter! Have you read anything else by Dunsany? He's pretty cool. Ummm....yeeeeeeees.

Also, I know they sell d10's at the geek shoppe across the street from walmart for ~25 cents apiece, but you might be able to find them for cheaper online.

I'm glad you liked Castle in the Sky--I hope you try and like other Miyazaki films, too.

Geeky thing: When the last Harry Potter book came out, we quarantined the house, and took turns (but mainly it was my husband) reading aloud until the book was finished--two days later.

Is your Sonya Taaffe collection poetry, prose, or a mix?

The local public library benefits from a Rhysling award winning poet as a reference librarian.

Totally cool.

Support your local gaming stores; buy your dice at a brick-and-mortar store. I don't know about the Beloit/Janesville/Rockford area, but Madison has several good gaming stores with good dice selections, sets and singles. It's an excuse to come visit Mirkwood too!

There used to be a store called "Tomorrow is Yesterday" in Rockford, apparently it's been sold and the name was changed to "Top Cut Comics." Everything on their site is about Pokemon TCG tourneys, but I remember people talking about going on dice runs there in the past. I suggest finding a few other people who also want dice, form some sort of posse, and get to Rockford or Madison. I dunno, I'm a big fan of supporting real stores, because they're less and less common nowadays.

1. I'm glad you liked your first Miyazaki, he's really wonderful. If you're looking for another one with a lighter tone (I'd say happier, but all of the Miyazaki films I've seen have a good ending. Eventually.) I'd recommend Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, or My Neighbor Totoro (by far the most "cutesy"). Still good but with heavier themes are Nausicca of the Valley of the Wind and Princess Mononoke.

2. d10s: http://www.trollandtoad.com/Gaming-Supplies-%26-Dice/1204-483p1n10.html though bear in mind there are a variety of places around the internet. You can generally buy them individually or buy them in sets of ten.

3. Nerd Moment: Ask Nicolai about the "Really Cool Gnomish Metal" incident. I'm sure he would only be too happy to elaborate.

I'd argue Ponyo may be more cutesy than Totoro.

I didn't even realize there were still people playing 7th Sea. That is tight.

Also, Miyazaki's pretty cool. I just saw Ponyo a month or two back. Shit was so cute.

I totally wish I remembered that, the Western Day! Then again, I was never too aware of those when they were going on.

We are willing to inflict them upon you, should it somehow end up that doing so when you are around here is necessary/appropriate.
