More book arts
Jan. 6th, 2009 07:23 pmI just bought a book out of which I'll make a project that I've had in mind for a while as well as an old dictionary. The old dictionary is really shiny because it has all sorts of awesome little diagrams and it has dictionary style words and I'm planning on cutting it apart and decoupage-ing bits of it onto flat things with holes in them and making jewelry. It shall be sweet. Um. People who know stuff about this sort of thing - I should use modge podge, right?
I am quite excited to start making things. I think I'll practice with the jewelry idea on some part of the dictionary I care less about first then use something I like. This is fun.

Or you could take photocopies and use those if all you need is the shapes and images. If you need the actual texture of the paper, then that doesn't work so well though. Another nice thing about reproductions, depending on how you do them, is that you can fiddle with the sizing, the colours of both the print and the negative space, and if you're working with a camera, the perspective. Also, you can try a few different things with the same image.

Date: 2009-01-08 03:22 am (UTC)Even if you haven't got something on hand you can digitize an image with, you experiment with the colour stuff with pens/markers/highlighters etc... or layering coloured paper/tissue. Granted at the size I'd guess you're working with, it'll probably be finicky, but then it is jewelery.
