does anyone have music recommendations for me? I enjoy The Decemberists, They Might be Giants, musicals, most things, etc, etc. (yes Erin I like what is on your CDs. I also like what is on CDs my brother makes me. Those mainly go in songs though, not bands so it is difficult to list. Yes, Alena I enjoy For It All.)

Try Stars? Because they're pretty, and because I'm reccing them to just about everything that moves lately.

If you're looking for musicals and haven't listened to Spring Awakening yet, you really really need to.

You might try Jonathan Coulton, some of his songs are really good I think. Also, a lot of them are free! http://www.jonathancoulton.com/store/downloads/
I strongly recommend Skullcrusher Mountain (mad scientists!), Mandelbrot Set (math!) and Dance, Soterios Johnson, Dance (NPR host!).

I SECOND VIENNA TENG. Vienna Teng is amazing, and full of landscape and story.

My current musical fixation is Abigail Washburn and her band the Sparrow Quartet, who play a fusion of old-timey American music, classical music, and traditional Chinese music with two banjos, a violin, and a cello. It's vivid and stunning and full of magic.

Sarah Slean is another favourite; a lot of her music has 1920s/cabaret leanings, and a lot of texture, even in the more sparely instrumented songs.

I have mp3s of all of these artists (and many more! :p) lying about if you'd like a sample. :) For that matter, just scroll through my last.fm account sometime.

I'm not sure how well it flows from the Decemberists or They might be Giants, but your dancing feet icon is forcing me to recommend Great Big Sea.
